The Decatur Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ decreased from 123,713 in 1970 to 108,490 in 2010. That was a decrease of 11.4 percent.
The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,297 in 1970 to 2,278 in 2010. That was an increase of 75.6 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.0 percent to 2.1 percent.
The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) decreased by 12.3 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. The MSA had falling population in all periods because of negative NDM, but B-D was adding the most population in the all periods.
The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NIM became the only factor adding population in the second period.
